The seventh M.G. Rozenberg International Commercial Arbitration Moot “RFTA 2020 – International Sale of Goods”

We invite bachelors, masters and post-graduate students of all universities of the Russian Federation and other countries to participate in the Moot.

Each university may send up to 3 teams to participate in each section.
Each team participates only in one section.
The results of the competition are summed up separately in each section.
Participation in the competition is free.

The application includes the name of the university, faculty, the chosen language, team composition and coach, contact information (telephone numbers, e-mails of the team members). The application is to be sent not later than January 30, 2020

Purposes and Objectives of the Competition. The Competition is aimed:
· to uncover the secrets of the international lawyer’s profession,
· to familiarize the students with the remedies available to the parties to an international contract,
· to develop students’ ability to present the position on the basis of applicable rules of law and on the basis of both domestic and foreign doctrine convincing the arbitral tribunal of the validity of the presented arguments,
· to master acting on behalf of the party to a commercial dispute in Russian and in English, orally and in writing,
· to familiarize the students with modern technologies of international arbitration,
· to offer the students the opportunity to receive valuable recommendations and practical advice from the leading lawyers specialized in international arbitration.

The jury is headed by Professor V. V. Chubarov, the Vice-President of the CCI of the Russian Federation, member of the Presidium and arbitrator of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

The jury of the competition is formed of the arbitrators of the International Commercial Arbitration Court and other domestic and foreign arbitration centers, including native speakers.

Preparation and holding of the Moot provides the Organizing Committee, which includes:

Komarov, Head of the Chair of Private International Law, Professor, member of the Presidium and arbitrator of the ICAC, member of the Presidential Council for the codification of law and improvement of civil legislation, member of the Presidential Council for the improvement of justice;
Vice-chairman: D. N. Podshibjakin, Head of the Center of Arbitration and Mediation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation;
Executive director of the Competition: I. N. Lukianova, Head of the Chair of Procedural Law, the reporter of the ICAC.

REGISTRATION for participation in the Russian and English sections of the competition is carried out until January 30, 2020. The case will be offered in Russian and English until November 1, 2019.

The competition consists of two rounds:
The first round - preparing Memoranda of the Claimant and sending them not later than February 3, 2020. The draw for the teams for the hearings of the first round will be held on February 5, 2020, after that not later than 6 March 2020 the teams prepare Memoranda of the Defendant.

The second round - moot courts -

The first round of the moot courts in the form of procedural duels of teams where each team will take part in 2 moots (as a Claimant and as a Defendant) that will be held in RFTA on March 18, 2020 (Vorobyevskoye Shosse, 6A).

The second round of the moot courts (quarterfinals and semifinals) will be held in RFTA on March 19, 2020 (Vorobyevskoye Shosse, 6A).

The final round will take place on March 20, 2020 in the Congress center of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation.

The award ceremony and the closing ceremony will take place on March 20, 2020 at the Congress center of the Chamber of Commerce and industry of the Russian Federation. The winners and the best participants will receive prizes and internships in leading law firms.
