History

1931

The All-Russia Foreign Trade Academy (VAVT) was founded for the purpose of training executives and experts in the field of foreign trade according to the decision of the USSR Council of People’s Commissars.

1939

In compliance with the decree of the USSR Council of People’s Commissars the Academy received the status of a higher educational establishment for training specialists with higher education in “International Economic Relations”.

1963

Evening format of personnel training opens at the Academy.

1964

In addition to the Department of Foreign Trade Economists, the Department of International Economists was founded at the Academy for the purpose of training staff for employment at international organizations of the United Nations organization.

1969

The Department of Professional Development started its functioning, and in the 80-s it was reorganized into the Institute of Professional Development of the Academy.

1973

The Department of External Economic Relations was set up at the Academy for training personnel to participate in programs of the USSR economic and technical assistance to foreign countries.

1981

On its 50-th anniversary the Academy was decorated with the order of International Friendship for its services in training highly skilled personnel for employment in the field of trade and economic, scientific and technical relations of the Soviet Union with foreign countries. The Academy was decorated with the international award the “Golden Mercury”.

1988

A Post graduate course majoring in the field of “Economy, planning and organization of National economy management” was opened and the Council for defending doctoral and candidate theses was created at the Academy.

1990

By decision of the RF Government full-time and extramural tuition were introduced in the Academy.

1992

The International commercial department with day, evening and extramural tuition was founded on the basis of the Department of Foreign Trade Economists and of Foreign Economic Relations.

The Academy was renamed as the Russian Foreign Trade Academy.

1993

The English language courses were opened and then reorganized into the Centre of Foreign Languages of the Academy.

1994

The Academy started to major in training specialists in the field of “World economy”.

In accordance with the “Regulations of Federal governmental service” the Academy started training governmental employees involved in the fields of management of external economic activity and development of international economic, scientific and technical co-operation on the federal and regional levels.

The Department of the Governmental and International Service was founded on the basis of the Department of Foreign Trade Economists.

The Far-Eastern Branch of the Academy was opened in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

1996

The Academy started training specialists in the field of “World economy” on the basis of complete secondary education. The Department of International Economists for students was founded (day department).

Preparatory courses for entering the Academy were opened.

The Department of Professional retraining and the Refresher Course for specialists with higher education for work in the field of external economic activity (the Business School of the Academy) was set up.

The retraining program “Foreign trade entrepreneur” was opened on the basis of the above Department.

The Training of bachelors in the areas of “Management” and “Economy” was started.

1998

The Department of International Law was founded for training students on the basis of higher education (evening department) majoring in “Jurisprudence”.

The Federal program “Training of managerial staff for the RF national economy organizations (“The Presidential Program”) in the areas of “Foreign trade management” and “International marketing” was opened on the basis of the Department of retraining.

Admission to the evening branch of the Department of Foreign Trade Economists started.

1999

Training on the basis of complete secondary education (day department) started at the Department of International law.

2000

The Academy started to effect training according to the program “Master of Business Administration”, with major subjects being “Marketing” and “International business”.

The Board for defending doctoral theses in the field of economics was created.

2001

The Department of Foreign Trade Management was founded, on the basis of which the training of bachelors in the field of ‘Management” started (day department)

The first graduation of the Department of International Economists took place.

2002

At the postgraduate course of the Academy

in addition to the existing discipline “Economy and management of national economy” new disciplines were opened : “World economy”, “Civil law; entrepreneurial law; family law; international private law”; “International law, European law”. The Academy starts professional retraining and refresher course for specialists of organizations and enterprises of the RF Defense complex according to the program “Management in the field of military cooperation of the RF with foreign countries”.

The Academy was certified by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

2003

The Academy announced admission to the Master’s degree course in Management with such major subjects as “Legal support of international activity” and “International business”.

2004

The Theses Board started working for the defense of candidates’ theses in the field of “Civil law; entrepreneurial law; family law; international private law”; “International law. European law”. The first graduation of students of the Department of International Law on the basis of complete secondary education (day department) took place.

2005

A new discipline “Corporative management” within the framework of the Master of Business Administration program was initiated.

The first graduation of bachelors and masters in “Management” took place.

A new course in English “Master in Global Management” of the MBA program was initiated within the framework of international cooperation with Bremen Higher School.

2006

A new course “Finance and Credit”(evening department) was initiated on the basis of the Department of International Economists.

A new discipline “Economy, Trade policy and World Trade Organization law” of the Master of Business Administration program was initiated.

2007

A new discipline in “Management” – “Logistics” within the Master’s degree course was introduced.

2008

Training of specialists in the field of “Finance and credit” on the basis of complete secondary education (day department) started at the Department of International Economists”.
